Physiome Ontology Interface

Using the Physiome Ontology

Goals

Develop general and domain specific ontology frameworks for providing metadata about physiome data. Physiome data includes: CellML and FieldML models, images, video, raw numerical data, animations, etc.

Provide human and machine level interfaces to the Physiome databases through an Ontological Interface system. An ontological interface system combines the semantics of ontological modeling with various specifications for interacting with the data defined within these ontologies. Interfaces include:

  • database query languages and interfaces
  • software API specifications
  • human navigable web interface
  • human interactive 3D environment

The development of these data resources and interfaces is dependent on developing a community based standard for representing metadata about resources. The CellML metadata specifications are one such group of standards that are employed for annotating CellML models. All data relevant to community wide implementation of software is given a space within the metadata framework, or, if a domain specific specification of metadata does not currently exist, then the principles for defining such a standard are provided.
