Old FieldML front page
FieldML is an XML-based language for describing time-varying and spatially-varying fields. The language will eventually serve as a replacement for the ".exelem" and ".exnode" files used by CMISS, and is intended to be useful for other groups interested in the field description problem. The aims of the language design process are to keep the language concise, consistent, intuitive and flexible.
OpenCMISS project pushing along FieldML development
January 2006 : OpenCMISS and FieldML
The re-engineering of cmiss, OpenCMISS, is now providing more motivation and getting more people into the fieldml development effort. It is proposed the FieldML be at the core of the new data structures for opencmiss. More infomation on fieldml and its progress can now be found on the opencmiss wiki eg concepts
11 August 2005: A renewed effort for FieldML
A renewed enthusiasm has brought a new effort at formally creating the FieldML language. This effort is being recorded in a wiki here.
5 March 2003: CMISS reading and writing a version of FieldML
If not already obvious, this language is still in its infancy. My contribution has been to work through the discussion and actually implement a reader and a writer in CMISS. See the meeting minutes for the 05/03/2003 where I work through this first draft of a FieldML document which CMISS reads and writes.
Links
The FieldML project is closely tied to the CellML project, which is also being coordinated by the Bioengineering Institute at the University of Auckland. The CellML website contains many useful links to XML resources and also lists many of the people from various interest groups that are interested in that project. Many of those people are also following the development of FieldML.
The AnatML project will also make use of FieldML. AnatML is another XML-based language for describing the anatomy of the human body.
History
FieldML was intially worked on by Warren Hedley, David Bullivant and Poul Nielsen. I have kept all the material previously posted on the web and begun adding documents which relate to the work I am doing.
